Day 1

The Voice Campfire 2024 was held at the Makiling 2 Ballroom of Park Inn Hotel by Radisson North EDSA. Day 1 started with a quick alignment meeting at 11:00 AM called by Yani Alonto, Voice Linking & Learning (L&L) Facilitator-Philippines. The meeting included the Voice PH representatives, Voice L&L-YGOAL Implementers, the facilitators, documenters, Amplifyathon, and technical (photographer/videographers) teams Yani discussed the Facilitator’s Guide which detailed the activities for the next three days.


Participants coming from different parts of the country trickled in towards the 2:00 PM start time of the event, with some coming in as late as past 8:00 in the evening due to delayed flights.

After the events of Day 1, administrative matters pertaining to hotel room and dinner arrangements for both the implementing teams and participants were discussed, and a reminder for the next day’s session which starts at 8:30 AM.


The Day 1 program ended around 5:15 PM. The YGOAL Secretariat and Voice teams ended with a debriefing, discussing the highs and lows of the day’s activities, and how to deal with issues raised in the succeeding days.

Day 2

The Day 2 Voice Campfire 2024 started at 8:43 AM.


Due to some technical difficulties in playing video recordings, JR Demecais led the opening prayer. Vince Pacanot, Campfire Officer of the Day, followed with a recap of the previous day’s activities by calling on participants to share what they found most memorable form the previous day’s discussions and events.


Below is the program for Day 2:

3. Mindfulness Exercise led by Marky Justin Torres, YGOAL Facilitator. Marky engaged the participants in a “loving kindness meditation” where the participants were asked to answer the questions “What is love?” and “What was the moment when you felt the most love and appreciated by the people around you?” The activity included breathing exercises as the participants “extended love and kindness” to a) someone they love, b) someone in their community or who they met in Voice events, c) someone they have a difficult relationship with, and d) themselves.

5. Getting To Know You Activity: Community Art Making facilitated by Yani Alonto, Voice L&L Facilitator. In this activity, the participants were asked to pair up. Ten tables were provided with a canvas, colored pens, paint and paint brushes. The participants introduced themselves to their partners and discussed their inner purpose as advocates of inclusion. Three questions were flashed onscreen to be answered using art on canvas, with 15 minutes provided for each round. The Community Art Making was the method used in introducing themselves and their stories. At the end of the activity, the canvasses in each table were brought together for the final artwork.

As in Day 1, the participants were given the liberty to decide where to have their dinner using their allowance provided the previous day. They were also reminded that the next day’s session starts at 8:30 AM.


The Day 2 program ended at 5:05 PM. The YGOAL Secretariat and Voice teams ended with a debriefing, discussing the highs and lows of the day’s activities, and how to address feedback from the team for the following day.

Day 3

The Day 3 Voice Campfire 2024 started at 8:50 AM.


Below are the activities that took place:

  1. INTERFAITH OPENING PRAYER
  2. MINDFULNESS EXERCISE by Yani Alonto
  3. ENERGIZER by JR Demecais
  4. RECAP of the different stages of the Amplifyathon by JR Demecais.
  5. AMPLIFYATHON PART 3: Ship It! facilitated by JR Demecais, this activity involved the readying of communication materials developed by the participants for publishing/posting in the online channels of their choosing to test audience engagement.
  6. STAKEHOLDERS EVENT PREPARATIONS by Yani Alonto. This was the time given to the participants to prepare for the stakeholders who will be joining the event in the afternoon so they could take charge of welcoming the guests and help deepen their appreciation and understanding of inclusion.
  7. ABOUT LINKING AND LEARNING (Plenary Instructions) by Yani Alonto focused on a brief background about L&L and encouraging the plenary (righstholders, grantees, stakeholders and guests) to explore the open space so they could appreciate the advocacies and stories of the participants. The activities they could choose were the Yakap/Pakay Art Exhibit, Incluciety Game, and Advocacy Marketplace. Each area had a rightsholder participant stationed to converse with the guests.
  8. BORDERLESS HUMANS was an ‘unconferencing / open conversations and movements activity where the stakeholder guests were encouraged to go around the room and choose their topics/discussions they would like to engage in. They were given time to move from one interest group to another.
  9. RHG TALKS: Knowing the Rightsholder Groups were pocket sessions of sharing on relevant intersecting topics agreed upon by the participants for sharing with the stakeholder guests.
  10. MESSAGE OF SUPPORT was provided by Ms. Jaymie Ann Reyes on behalf of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In her speech, she encouraged everyone to continue the fight for human rights. She said that the stories of success and learnings provide others with inspiration and strength. She thanked everyone for their dedication and passion and emphasized that together, their voices and stories are stronger.
  11. Plenary Presentations: AMPLIFYATHON CHALLENGE REPORT was a presentation of the major outputs during the Campfire by the participants to the stakeholder guests.
  12. INCLUSION PILIPINAS: Our Commitment as a Community was the writing of personal statements by the stakeholder guests of their commitment as part of the ceremonial seal of support.
  13. CLOSING PROGRAM
    1. OPEN MIC: Impressions of Invited Stakeholders – Two stakeholder representatives shared their impressions and observations
    2. OUR INVITATION: The Voices of the Rightsholders – Representatives from each RHG made a call to action to their fellow RHGs and the stakeholders.

  14. DISTRIBUTION OF CERTIFICATES – The stakeholders were presented with certificates before they leave the conference.
  15. DINNER AND FINAL CAMPFIRE SOCIALS was a “candle-lit” dinner for the participants and the organizing team where everyone could openly share with one another.

The Nuno Dance Troupe provided wonderful intermission numbers and closing performances for Day 3.

AMPLIFYATHON

CHALLENGE

An important component of the Campfire is facilitating intergenerational exchange in advocating inclusion by involving young journalists and communication practitioners as participants.


This will be an immersive experience, linking them with rightsholders to co-develop publication materials intended to amplify advocacies through the power of media.

The Campfire 2024 is poised as the Voice program’s culminating event in the Philippines. As the program ends, all Voice grantee partners from all cohorts will be invited to come together and celebrate. In partnership with the Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines, part of the event will be made open to the public engaging targeted stakeholders and organizations to champion the inclusion of all rightsholder groups.
